CHAPTER 181.

Passed Feb.
28, 1844.

An act for the relief of Nathan F. Comly.

May bring
slave into this
state.

Provisoes.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Nathan F. Comly, be, and he is hereby authorised
to introduce into this State and hold as a slave, negro
Alexander Sterling; provided, the said Nathan F. Comly
within sixty days from the passage of this law, shall file
with the clerk of Baltimore county, a description of such
slave, stating his age, with an affidavit thereto annexed,
stating that the same is a true and faithful description of
such negro, and that he is not removed into this State
for the purpose of sale, and that he is a slave for life; and
provided also, the said Nathan F. Comly shall pay over
to the clerk of Baltimore county court, fifteen dollars, for
the use of the Colonization society of the state, as re-
quired by the act of eighteen hundred and thirty-three,
chapter eighty-seven.

 

CHAPTER 182.

Passed Feb.
28, 1844.

An act to allow William Hance, Clerk of Calvert County,
and Samuel S. Hodgkin, Register of Wills of said
County, further time to place their fees in the hands of
the Sheriff.

Time allowed.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage this act, Wil-
liam Hance clerk of Calvert county, and Samuel S.
Hodgkin Register of Wills of said county, be, and they
are hereby authorised to place the fees due to them or
either of them for collection for the year eighteen hundred
and forty-three, in the hands of the sheriffs of the several
counties of this state, in which they or either of them may
have fees due to them at any time between the passage
of this act and the first day of May next, and said sheriffs
are hereby required to receive the same, any law to the
contrary notwithstanding.

Bonds of she-
riffs not liable,

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the bonds of the said
sheriffs shall not be liable for the said fees until the first
day of December then next ensuing.
