WHEREAS, E. N. Dixon faithfully served as a police officer
of Anne Arundel County for a number of year; and

WHEREAS, E. N. Dixon died in the year 1943; and served as
police officer for Galesville and vicinity and had reached the
age of 65 years before the law of 1939 creating a pension for
police officers of Anne Arundel County was enacted, and there-
fore was not qualified to receive a pension under that Act; and

WHEREAS, E. N. Dixon left as his widow, Mrs. E. N. Dixon,
who is now in dire need of financial assistance; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
be and they are hereby authorized and directed to pay to Mrs.
E. N. Dixon, widow of E. N. Dixon, a former police officer of
said county, a monthly pension of sixty dollars ($60. 00) per
month for a period not to exceed five (5) years from the date
of this Act.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

Approved April 5, 1945.

CHAPTER 568.

(House Bill 428)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
85 (a) of Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1943 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Ad-
ministration — Registration — Titling", relating to applica-
tion of minor for chauffeur's license. ,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 85 (a) of Article 66y2, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles",
sub-title "Administration—Registration—Titling", be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

85. (a) (Application of Minors. ) The application of any
person under the age of eighteen (18) years for an instruction
permit or operator's or chauffeur's license shall be signed and
verified, before a person authorized to administer oaths, by a
parent or guardian of the applicant and if there be no parent
or guardian, then by an employer of such minor, and if there
be no parent, guardian or employer then by a responsible per-.
