November Court 1762 193 Almighty God to the Evil Example of All others in such case offending against the peace of the said Lord propry that now is his good Rule and government and against the form of the act of assembly in such case made and provided and so forth Thereupon it is commanded the sheriff of somerset county that he should take the afd. Randal Long if he should be found in his Bailywick and him should safe keep so that he might have his body before the Justices of his Lordships county court of somerset to be held at princess Ann Town the third tuesday of August Anno Dom. 1762 to answer unto his said Lordship of & concerning the Indictment afd. &c Att which day here came the afd. Randall Long in his proper person and had a hearing of the Indictment afd. saith he is not thereof Guilty and puts himself upon the country and George Hay ward Gent his Lordships Attorney who for his said Lordship in this part prosecuteth likewise Thereupon it is commanded the sheriff of somerset county that he should cause to come before his Lordships Justices of the next court to be held at princess Ann Town the third tuesday of November then next following Twelve &c by whom &c and who &c to Recognize &c because &c Att which day here came as well George Hayward Gent his said Lordships Attorney who for his said Lordship in this part prosecuteth As the afd. Randal Long in his proper person and the she -rif to witt Ephraim Wilson returned the afd. writt of Venire facias & the names of the Jurors in all things served and Exe -cuted and the Jurors of that Jury thereof Impannelled being called to witt William Fleming William Venables John Pollit Southy Whittington William Fountain John Anderson Isaiah Tilghman Jessey King Thos. Sloss William Skervin Levin Ballard & William Roach Came who to Say the truth of the premisses afd. being Elected tryed and Sworn Upon their Oath Say that the afd. Randall Long is not Guilty of the premisses in the Indictment mentioned above upon him Imposed in Manner and form as the afd. Randall above by pleading hath Alledged Therefore it is Considered that the afd. Randall Long of and from the Indictment afd. be discharged and goe thereof without day &c
of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred Before Isaac Handy Esqr and other his associates the said Lord propry his Justices of the same county court and for the same Lord propry doth give the same Justices here to un derstand and be informed that the Minister Vestrymen and Church Wardens of Coventry parish in the county afd. the first day of August which was in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Fifty nine at the parish afd. in the county afd. and within the Jurisdiction of this court suspecting then and there of Lewdness and Incontinency Tho -mas Dixon Late of the Parish and county afd. planter then and there being a married man and Ann Lord of the parish and county afsd Spinster did cause notice to be given To the said Thomas and the said Ann To appear before them the said Minister Vestry and Church Wardens on the first day of September in the Year last mentioned at a Vestry then held and that the said Thomas and Ann then & there did appear before the said Minister Vestry and Church Wardens the said Thomas and Ann haveing on the first day of September in the Year last mentioned Notice given them so to do and the same Thomas and Ann being acquainted then and there by the Minister Vestry and Chur -ch Wardens of the suspicion that was had of their the said Thomas and Ann Incontinency and were admonished then and there by the same minister Vestry and Church Wardens from accompaning together and frequenting the company of each other the said Thomas and Ann having not Excused or acquitted themselves of the grounds of such suspicion in such manner as the said Minister Vestry and Church Wardens did approve and the afsd Attorney of the said Lord propry doth give the said Justices here further to understand and be informed that the said Thomas Dixon of the parish afd. in the county afd. did afterwards to wit the first day of March in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty one and divers Times as well before as since at the parish afd. in the county afd. within the Jurisdiction of this court Contrary to and after the admonition Cohabit with and frequent the company of the said Ann Contrary to the act of assembly in such case made & provided and against the peace of the said Lord propry that now is his good Rule and government Whereupon the same Atty of the same Lord propry prays advice of the court here in the premisses and that due process of Law may in this part be made against the Thomas to answer of and upon the premisses & so forth Thereupon it is commanded the sheriff of somerset county that he should take the afd. Thomas Dixon if he should be fou -nd in his Bailywick and him should safe keep so that he might have his body before the Justices of his Lordships county court of somerset to be held at princess Ann Town the third tuesday of November Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and sixty one to answer unto his said Lordship concerning the information afd. Att which day here came the afd. Thomas Dixon in his proper person and had a hearing of the Information afd. saith that he is not thereof guilty and puts himself upon the country and George Hayward Gent his Lordships Attorney who for his said Lordship in this part prosecuteth likewise Thereupon |
