county, near to Gray's factory, on which a Masonic Hall is
erected, which is held in trust tor them, and they have pray-
ed that they may be incorporated for the purpose of being
enabled to hold, the said property in fee simple, and obtain-
ing the means as a corporation to purchase the same; there-
fore,

CHAP 33.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the Master and Wardens for the time being
of Patmos Lodge, number seventy, of Free and Accepted
Masons, in Baltimore county, and their successors, chosen
from time to time by the members of said Lodge, in such
manner as the rules and regulations thereof does or shall
provide, shall be and they are hereby created a body poli-
tic and corporate, by the name of The Master and Wardens
of Patmos Lodge, number seventy, of Free and Accepted
Masons, and shall have continued succession, be capable of
purchasing and holding the property herein authorised, and
of using or renting the same, and may have and use a com-
mon seal, and may alter and renew the same, and shall pos-
sess all the powers, rights and privileges incident to a
corporation, for the purposes herein mentioned; and the said
Master and Wardens may open a subscription for a capital
stock not exceeding five thousand dollars, in shares of such
amount, on such terms, and in such manner, as they shall
deem advisable, and may apply the amount of such sub-
scription, when received, to the purchase of the fee simple
right of the property held in trust for the members of said
Lodge, and may use the residue of the said capital for the
use and benefit of the said Lodge, and the Master and War-
all such deeds and other writings, and do all such other acts,
as shall be necessary to give full effect to the provisions of
this act.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation may
have, hold, use and occupy, the property herein before men
tioned, or any other property in the state of Maryland, as
real or leasehold estate, provided the value thereof shall not
exceed five thousand dollars.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That nothing contained in
this act shall be so construed or taken as to prevent the state
of Maryland from levying on such institution any assess-
ment or tax similar to any other taxes levied on properly
within this state.
