121 ~  10 November 1692 Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Samuel Hopkins, Thomas Jones, James Dashiell, Capt. John King.

 

121 ~  Robert Pirrie ordered to give security for Rose Mason to appear at January Court; makes bond of £10.

 

122 ~  James Sangster ordered to give security for appearance of Germaine Gillett at January Court; makes £10 bond.

 

122 ~  Case against Thomas Porter for stealing a gray horse from land of William Brereton, valued at 999 lbs/tbco; Porter pleads not guilty; James Sangster, Clerk of Indictments; Sheriff calls Jury: William Piper (Pyper), Daniel Hast, William Harris, Matthew Wallis, Samuel Jones, Teague Quillaine, John Jenner, Henry Philips, Gydeon Tillman, Thomas Willis, David Griffis, Nicholas Evins; Jury finds Porter guilty with horse valued at 400 lbs/tbco, to be paid fourfold;

 

123 ~  Thomas Porter makes bond for £20 to pay fourfold and be of good behavior; security David Hast.

 

124 ~   Horse brought to Courthouse and viewed by Jury which reports under oath that it is the horse of Roger Woolford; no record of subsequent action by Court.

 

124 ~  Case against Thomas Porter, planter, for driving horses onto plantation of Francis Jenckins in Wicomico and destroying several panels of fence, though forbidden and forewarned by William Burch, tenant; James Sangster, Clerk of Indictments; indictment quashed by Court.

 

125 ~  Petition of Thomas Beauchamp requesting a Quietus from account of his father’s estate, valued at £14/12/4; account presented and proved.

 

125 ~  Petition of Edward Jones for assessment of service on runaway servant, Mary Maxwell; claims costs of 400 lbs/tbco and loss of time.

 

125 ~  Sworn statement by Capt. John King, having stopped at house of Edward Jones, who is very sick and lame; Jones called Mary Maxwell in and stated that she had run away for 13 days, which Maxwell did not deny; she had been returned by John Starrett of Pocomoke to Thomas Newbold, with note to Jones for 200 lbs/tbco.

 

126 ~  Capt. John King’s attestation read in Court; Court orders Maxwell to serve 5 months for the 400 lbs/tbco expense and 130 days for running away.

 

126 ~  John Pope cited for non-appearance; Robert Pirrie, Subsheriff, ordered to make bond for Pope’s appearance in January Court.

 

126 ~  Case against Edmund Beauchamp for fornication and fathering a bastard by Hannah Holland; Beauchamp pleads not guilty; James Sangster, Clerk of Indictments; Holland makes oath that Beauchamp is the father; Court requires Beauchamp give security for good behavior and to indemnify the County against expenses which may be caused by the bastard child.

 

126 Edmund Beauchamp bond for £40; securities John Heath, Thomas Beauchamp.

 

127 ~  Petition of Nicholas Carpenter to remove negro woman Katherine from tithables; claims she had run away about 3 or 4 months earlier, before the Constable made the list; woman now assumed to be dead; petition granted.

 

127 ~  Court dismisses John Starett from Petty Jury.

 

127 ~  Thomas Jones, Pltf. vs. Thomas Quillaine, Deft. for debt of 1671 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Jones, cites note signed by Quillaine March 1689 assuming debt to Jones from William Morris; James Sangster, for Quillaine, claims to have already paid; two papers entered in record, one from Quillaine to Jones, other from William Morris to Quillaine; Jury summoned by Sheriff: William Piper (Pyper) (foreman), Daniel Hast, William Harris, Matthew Wallis, Samuel Jones, John Kellam (replaced Teague Quillaine), John Jenner, Henry Philips, Gydeon Tillman, Thomas Willis, David Griffis, Nicholas Evins; Jury finds for Plaintiff.

 

129 ~  Case against Mary Berry, alias Adams, spinster, for bearing bastard child by Thomas Williams, murdering the infant, and feeding the body to hogs so they will not be discovered; Frances Williams, wife of Thomas said to have discovered them and made the deed known at the house of Michael Williams in Annemessex; Berry pleads not guilty; James Sangster, Clerk of Indictments; no Jury called or verdict recorded but Court requires Berry to make bond of £40 for her good behavior; securities are her husband Philip Adams and Hope Tayler. 130 ~  Samuel Sanford, merchant of Accomac County VA, Pltf. vs. John Calhoone, Deft. for debt of 561 lbs/pork; Peter Dent, attorney for Pltf. presents bill bill of debt signed 7 February 1689 by Colhoone promising payment at Sanford’ store in Accomac; witnesses Thomas Iremonger, William Hoxt; Colhoone admits debt; Deft. to pay costs.

 

131 ~  Samuel Sanford, Pltf. vs. Thomas Quillane, Deft. for debt of 107 lbs/pork; Peter Dent, attorney for Sanford presents Quillaine’s account from 20 December 1688; Quillane admits debt, ordered to pay with costs.

 

132 ~  Peter Dent, Pltf. vs. John Calhoone, Deft. for debt of 97 lbs/pork; Dent presents account dated 8 May 1691; Calhoone admits debt, ordered to pay with costs.

 

132 ~  Margaret Summers asks payment for 9 days attendance at Court in trial of John Tayler vs. William Coulbourne.
