CHAPTER 118.
AN ACT relating to jurisdiction over that portion of Fort Mc-
Henry the use of which was recently granted to the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore.
WHEREAS, Under Act of the Sixty-third Congress of the
United States, numbered 108, of May 26, 1914, the Secretary
of War, by Permit dated June 1, 1914, granted to the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore, for use for park purposes, the
land known as Fort McHenry, with certain exceptions therein
mentioned and under certain restrictions and conditions there-
in contained, and it is deemed desirable that the jurisdiction
of Courts, magistrates and peace officers of Baltimore City
should be extended over said land, and a Joint Resolution is
pending in Congress to cede jurisdiction over said land to the
State of Maryland;
Therefore—
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That all laws of the State of Maryland and ordinances of
the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore now or hereafter ex-
isting, intended for the preservation of peace and good order
and the prevention, detection and punishment of crimes and
misdemeanors, applicable in the City of Baltimore, shall apply
and be of full force and effect within all that portion of Fort
McHenry Military Reservation included within the said Permit
of June 1, 1914, and all police and other peace officers exercis-
ing police powers within the limits of the City of Baltimore,
including park police, shall have the same powers within the
said portion of Fort McHenry Military Reservation; and all
magistrates and Courts of the said State and City having juris-
diction in Baltimore City shall have the like jurisdiction over
said portion of said Military Reservation so long as the same
may be held by the said Mayor and City Council of Baltimore
under said Permit of June 1, 1914.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is an emer-
gency law and necessary for the immediate preservation of the
public safety and shall take effect, so far as under the laws of
the United States it can take effect, from the date of its pas-
sage, and so far as its taking effect may depend upon any Act
or Resolution of Congress, then this Act shall take effect upon
the passage of such Act or Resolution.
