606 RESOLUTIONS.
 

No. 8.

Assented to
March 9, 1864.

WHEREAS, on the fifth day of June, A. D. eighteen
hundred and fifty-four, a treaty was made and
entered into between the United States' of Ameri-
ca and the Government of Great Britain known
as the Reciprocity Treaty, which was ratified
and proclaimed at Washington city on the ele-
venth day of September, eighteen hundred and
fifty-four; and whereas, said treaty was by its
terms, to remain in force for ten years after its
date, and terminate after twelve months notice
to that effect being given by either of the con-
tracting parties; and whereas, said treaty has
pot operated to the benefit of the people of these
United States, but to their great injury; and a
movement having been made in the Congress of
the United States looking to the termination of
said Reciprocity Treaty;

Therefore, be it resolved by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That our Senators and Representa-
tives be and they are hereby requested to give their
best aid and exertions to procure said notice to be
speedily given for the termination of said treaty.

Be it further resolved, That a copy of this pre-
amble and resolutions be forwarded by the Gov-
ernor to our Senators and Representatives in Con-
gress, with the request that they be communicated
to both Houses of Congress at an early day.

Feb. 6, 1864.

Resolved by the Genera} Assembly of Maryland,
That fill committees whose duties lequire their
absence from Annapolis shall be allowed, by the
Committee on Claims, their actual expenses while
engaged in the performance of their respective du-
ties, and that no extra per diem or mileage shall
be allowed.
