THE COLORED TRAINING SCHOOL.

(No. 100).

This school is devoted to the preparation of teachers for the pub-
lic schools of Baltimore City. Since its establishment in 1900, it
has prepared nearly 450 teachers for the elementary public schools
of Baltimore.

The course is two years in length, and is based upon an approved
High School Course of four years.

The required subjects include Psychology, History of Education,
Theory of Teaching and the special methods appropriate to instruc-
tion in Mathematics, History, Geography, Nature Study, Language
and Grammar, Reading, Literature, Hygiene, Manual Training,
Physical Training and Drawing.

One-fourth of the course, one-half year, is devoted to practice
teaching under criticism. During this time the pupil teacher re-
ceives compensation at the rate of one dollar per day.
