8 B. The manner of administering oaths shall be by requir-
ing the person making the same to hold up his hand in token
of his recognition of the solemnity of the act, except in those
cases wherein this form is not practicable, or when it shall
appear that some other mode is more binding upon the con-

CHAPTER 76.
AN ACT to change the name and amend the charter of The
Jacob Tome Institute of Port Deposit, Cecil County, a cor-
poration incorporated under the General Incorporation Laws
of the State of Maryland, the certificate of incorporation
whereof is recorded among the corporation record books of
Cecil County, in Liber D. S. No. 1, folio 220, &c.
WHEREAS, The Jacob Tome Institute of Port Deposit, Cecil
county, is a corporation incorporated under the General Incor-
poration Laws of this State for the creation and maintenance

of an educational institution in the town of Port Deposit, in
the State of Maryland, for the free education and instruction
of white children under the age of eighteen years, and furnish-
ing for their use, free of charge, such books, apparatus, instru-
ments and machinery as ehall be necessary and proper for their
instruction ; and

WHEREAS. Said corporation is a benevolent educational insti-
tion whose affairs are not conducted for profit; and
WHEREAS, Said corporation is desirous of changing its name
by leaving off the words " of Port Deposit, Cecil County," and
of amending its charter so as to enlarge its powers, extend its

demnation, have the property it now possesses, and such prop-
erty as it may hereafter acquire, exempt from taxation, and
provide for the protection and security of its endowment fund ;
