FRANK BROWN, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

CHAPTER 536.

AN ACT to amend the charter of Annapolis, by adding
thereto a section to be entitled " Section 29 A," relating to
special elections.

SECTION 1. Se it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the provisions of article 33 of the Code of
Public General Laws, title "Elections," as enacted by chapter
538, acts of 1890, and the provisions of new section 166 of said
article 33, as enacted by chapter 701 of the acts of 1892, shall
not apply to special elections held in the city of Annapolis,
Anne Arundel county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in all special elections the
corporation of the city of Annapolis shall appoint three judges
of said special election, any two of whom shall be competent
to hold such election, and shall also appoint the necessary,
clerks of said election; and the said judges and clerks shall
qualify before the mayor of Annapolis or any justice of the
peace of Annapolis, by taking the following oath: "I do
solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of
judge (or clerk) of election, to the best of my knowledge and
ability, without favor, affection or partiality,"

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the mayor, counsellor and
aldermen of the city of Annapolis shall designate the place:
of holding said elections, and the polls shall be kept open from
eight o'clock in the morning until six o'clock in the evening,
and the returns shall be made to the said mayor, counsellor
and aldermen, and recorded among their proceedings.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all persons registered as
qualified voters in said city shall be entitled to vote at said
election.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said judges and clerks
of said special election shall be subject to the same penalties as
other judges and clerks of election of the State are for viola-
tions of the election laws; and the said corporation of Annap-
olis shall pay all expenses incurred in said special elections.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
