ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 27

us four looseleaf notebooks containing abstracts of references to the
City copied from the Maryland Gazette for the period 1728-1810.

Maps outlining the boundaries of original land grants on the
Eastern Shore of Maryland were also received. Mr. Harry L. Benson's
maps cover both Somerset and Worcester Counties. The map compiled
by Messrs. Thomas DeC. Ruth, H. Norman Grieb and Bartus Trew,
deals with the Quaker Neck area of Kent County. Only a person who
has done this type of research can appreciate the tremendous amount of
work involved in carrying out such projects.

Philatelists will be interested to know that a scrapbook recording
the activities of the Committee on Design of the Annapolis Tercentenary
Stamp issued on May 23, 1949, has now been placed in our custody
by Professor Earl W. Thomson, who served as Chairman of the Com-
mittee. A number of first day covers with interesting cachets may be
seen in the scrapbook. The working papers assembled by the Com-
mittee include several framed photocopies of maps. The Annapolis
maps are already represented in our collection, but we are glad to
have the Ogilby map of Maryland entitled, Nova Terrae-Mariae Tabula,
published in 1671.

Through the courtesy of the St. Mary's Historical Society, we
were permitted to make a microfilm print of the microfilm copy of the
St. Mary's Beacon owned by the Society.
