32 TWENTY-SIXTH ANNUAL REPORT
Collins, Downes, Lomax, Robinson, Spicknall, Tayloe and other fam-
ilies. In addition, the Maryland State Society, D.A.R., presented us with
typewritten copies of numerous other Bible records dating from 1738
to 1959.
While it is not the function of an archival agency to collect news-
papers, we have in recent years become increasingly aware that the files
of a few representative newspapers would be useful in supplementing
our primary materials. Consequently, when the Peabody Institute offered
us its file of the Baltimore American, we were delighted to accept. Ex-
cept for a few torn pages, the file is complete from 1808 to 1920, but
there are several sizeable gaps from 1920 to 1928. We purchased a
microfilm copy of the Montgomery County Sentinel which covers the
years 1856-1896 with some issues missing.
