ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 15

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

The Archivist continued as a member of the Committee on Pro-
fessional Standards and Training, the Long Range Planning Committee
and the Federal-State Relations Committee of the Society of American
Archivists. He attended a meeting of the Committee on Standards and
Training at Washington June 12, 1961. On November 12, 1960, he
addressed a meeting of the various County Historical Societies held at
the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore. When the Maryland
General Assembly met in Frederick, February 15, 1961, to commemor-
ate the 100th Anniversary of the Special Session held there in 1861, the
Archivist and Assistant Archivist attended and prepared an exhibit of
mementoes of that meeting.

The Hall of Records was host on March 17, 1961 to the partici-
pants in the International Cooperation Administration Training Pro-
gram. The Archivist attended the initial meeting of the Maryland His-
torical Trust held in Annapolis, June 14, 1961. He was appointed a
member of the Trust for a two-year term beginning June 1, 1961. It is
the hope of the Archivist that the envisioned objectives can be realized
by the Trust, but he had hoped that the obvious need which sparked its
creation would be cared for by a public agency fully supported and
controlled by the State government. He pressed this conviction, but
without success, at the 1961 meeting of the General Assembly.

The Assistant Archivist served as chairman of the Committee on
Preservation Methods and as a member of the Committee on State
Records of the Society of American Archivists. He attended the annual
meeting of this Society held in Boston. October 4-7, 1960. Mr. Skordas
also addressed the Rotary Club of Cambridge, at the invitation of Sena-
tor Malkus (Dorchester County).

Frank White continued to serve as a member of the State Docu-
ments Committee of the Maryland Library Association to study the
problems of distributing State publications to the various libraries of
the State. Meetings of this Committee were held in October, November
and December of 1960 and in March 1961. Mr. White is also a mem-
ber of the Curriculum Publications Committee of the Maryland State
Department of Education. The purpose of this committee is to recom-
mend publications for the use of the public schools and their libraries.
