For the second successive year the Archivist can report that
there has been only one resignation and no dismissals from the
staff of the Hall of Records. The single resignation was that
of Miss Cherie Dawson, an employee of only a few months ser-
vice. She was replaced on January 1, 1945 by Miss Ruth M.
Vermillion. There are three obvious explanations for this sta-
bility: the earlier exhaustion of employees subject to military
call, the lessened demand for white-collar workers in Washing-
ton, and perhaps most important, the improved compensation to
State Employees since the reclassifications of 1943.
