from an examination of the typography, it may be de-
duced that his printing office issued all the official
Masonic publications through 1800, with the exception
of Keatinge's Maryland Ahiman Rezon. printed for
Keatinge by Pechin, and the 1799 Proceedings, printed
by Hayes.
One of Dobbin's greatest contributions to Balti-
more bibliography was his publication of the two of
the three first volumes of Ordinances of Baltimore
which are known to be extant. Philip Edwards pub-
lished Ordinances of the first session of the city
corporation in 1797;85 Dobbin's publication of the
first and second sessions, in 1798,84 and of the
second and third sessions, in 1799,85 are the second
and third of this important series of city documents.
Samuel Sower and the German Press in Baltimore. -
In Frederick, in Western Maryland, Matthias Bartgis
had engaged in German and English printing since
1777;86 in Baltimore, Nicholas Hasselbaeh probably
carried on English and German printing from 1765 to
1769, although only one specimen printed in the Ger-
