printed in 1795. Clay land formed a partnership with
Thomas Dobbin about March 23, 1795. The firm of Clay-

George Keatinge. Bookseller and Printer. - Statis-
tics of the book trade in Baltimore during the 1790's,
lecause of the lack of existing records, would be quite
hard to determine; tut from the number of books printed
for George Keatinge's Look store, as the imprints them-
selves testify, and from the number of books "printed
by and for George Keatinge", it would appear that this
book shop was among the most active in the city.
Keatinge was born in Dublin, Ireland,21 and im-
migrated, probably with his brother Henry, to Baltimore
before January, 1794, when he published this advertise-
pents
George Keatinge, book tinder and stationer from
Dublin. Takes the liberty of informing the
citizens of Baltimore, that he has commenced the
above business in Second-Street, in all its dif-
ferent branches, and hopes by their patronage to
carry it on in the most approved and extensive
manner. Will keep always an assortment of the
very best paper and account books, which shall
be bound and ruled in the neatest manner, and on
the most reasonable terms. An apprenttce or two
wanted, lads of 12 or 13 years old. Also wanted,
1 or 2 hands to fold or sew books, to whom the
