One of the few surviving broadsides used by the merchants for advertising their wares. Both Goddard and Hayes offered
to print advertisements for store windows and distribution and Goddard printed some in colors.

Article V of the Treaty of Paris stipulated that Congress would recommend the restitution of the confiscated property.
The inability of Congress to change the policy of the states in this matter was the reason given by the British for holding
the frontier posts.

The committee consisting of Jefferson, Chase and Howell submitted their report on March 1 recommending the estab-
lishment of ten states between the Ohio and the Mississippi to be called Sylvania, Michigania, Cherronesus, Assenisipia,
Metropatamia, Illinois, Saratoga, Washington, Polypotamia, and Pelisipia. They also proposed that slavery be abolished
in this territory after 1800. The provisions were defeated and the report was recommitted. It appeared on March 22 in nearly
the same form as that in which it was accepted on April 23. See numbers, 343 and 344.
