This attack on the petition of the ministers of the Episcopal church to the Maryland Assembly was written by the Rev.
Patrick Allison, pastor of the First (Presbyterian) Church from 1763 to 1802. The main reason for opposition to the measures
is "the aggrandizement of any one sect above others, by holding an illicit commerce with civil power ... will ever raise a
powerful ahum, unless the people are enslaved or asleep ..." (p. iv.). The tract was reprinted by Goddard and Angell in
1793 with the addition of a series of papers showing the partiality of the Assembly to the Episcopal church. Both Evans and
Sabin incorrectly ascribe this to Patrick ElUson.
