chased 328 acres in Cecil County, 1765, which he

1775. LOCAL OFFICES: register of wills, Cecil
County, by June-November 1777; justice, Cecil

MIGRATED, in 1648, as a free adult. RESIDED, in
Newtown Hundred, St. Mary's County. FAMILY

wickshire. MARRIED Mary. CHILDREN. SON: Ed-
ward. NATURAL SON: John (whose mother was
Anne Smith). DAUGHTER: Mary. PRIVATE CA-
REER. EDUCATION: literate. RELIGIOUS AFFILIA-
TION: Protestant. SOCIAL STATUS AND ACTIVITIES:
Wade's sons, minors at his death, held no known

offices. OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE: chirurgeon.

Potomac (St. Mary's County), 1654 (elected dur-
ing the session to fill vacancy). WEALTH DURING

bated on September 4, 1658, in St. Mary's County.

WADE, ZACHARY (ca. 1627-1678). BORN: ca.
1627, probably in England. IMMIGRATED: in 1641,
as an indentured servant. RESIDED: in Kent County;

MARRIED Mary, daughter of Richard Hatton and
wife Margaret; stepdaughter of Richard Banks (ca.
1612-ca. 1667). Mary was the niece of Thomas
Hatton (?-1654/55). Her brothers were William
Hatton (?-1712); Richard, who married by 1674
Ann (1659-?), daughter of John Price (ca. 1607-
1660/61). Her sisters were Elinor (1642-1725),
who married first, Thomas Brooke (1632-1676),
and second, Henry Darnall (ca. 1645-1711); Eliz-
abeth, who married first, Luke Gardiner (1622-
1674), and second. Clement Hill (?-1708); and
Barbara, who married James Johnson (?-?).
CHILDREN. SONS. Richard; Robert (by 1657-1713/
14), a justice of Prince George's County, 1697-
1705, who married Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas
Sprigg (1630-1704) of Calvert County. DAUGH-
TERS: Theodosia, who married William Stone
(1666-1731); Jane, who married Richard (1659-
1710), son of Joseph Harrison (ca. 1623-1673);
and Marie (1661-?). PRIVATE CAREER. EDUCA-
TION, literate. RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION: probably
Protestant. SOCIAL STATUS AND ACTIVITIES: ar-
rived as a servant to Margaret Brent (ca. 1600-
1670/71); marriage brought upward mobility. OC-

merchant. PUBLIC CAREER. LEGISLATIVE SERVICE:
Lower House, Newtown Hundred, St. Mary's
County, 1658, Charles County, 1659/60, 1662,
1666. LOCAL OFFICES: justice, Charles County,
1660, 1663-1664, 1667-1678 (quorum, 1672-
1678); sheriff, Charles County, 1664-1665.

will probated on May 25, 1678, in Charles County.
