WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED: on June 9, 1790, at
"Sterlings Nest," Calvert County. PERSONAL
PROPERTY: his inventory was appraised at
£850.13.4 current money, but was then sold by
order of the Calvert County Orphans' Court for
£625.9.7 current money. LAND: a moiety of 888
acres in Calvert County. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
on November 30, 1795, because of the heavy in-
debtedness of Frazier's estate, the chancellor de-
creed that all of Frazier's land, which he and his
brother had inherited from their father, be sold.
One-half of the profits went to Frazier's creditors
and one-half to his brother John. The 888 acres
sold for £2,930.8.0.

FREELAND, FRISBY (by 1747-?). BORN: in Cal-
vert County, between 1742 and 1747; younger son.
NATIVE third generation. RESIDED in the Second
District, Calvert County, 1783; Ail Saints' Parish,
Calvert County, 1800. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FA-
THER: Robert Freeland (?-ca. 1757), a planter, of
Upper Cliffs, Calvert County, son of Robert Free-
land (?-ca. 1695), who immigrated ca. 1659 and
resided in Calvert County. MOTHER: Sarah, widow
of Thomas Holland (1700-1742). BROTHERS: Ro-
bert, Jr.; Francis; Jacob; Peregrine Freeland (?-?);
and Benjamin (?-by 1757). SISTERS: Mary, who
married William Harrison, Jr.; Sarah; and
Rebecca. MARRIED Sarah (1770-1843), widow of
Allen Bowie (ca. 1768-1795); daughter of William
Chew (1746-1801) and wife Elizabeth Reynolds
(?-1801); granddaughter of Thomas Reynolds.
Sarah was married either prior to, or subsequently
to, Beverly R. Grayson. Her brothers were Francis
Holland (1774-1834), who married (first name
unknown) Calvit, of Mississippi; William Lock
(1778-1858), who married in 1805 Rebecca Free-
land (1785-1840). Her sisters were Elizabeth
(1772-1828), who married both (first name un-
known) Mosely, of Kentucky, and (first name un-
known) Smith; Mary (1776-1821), who married
Thomas Reynolds, of Mississippi; and Ann Rey-
nolds (1780-?), who married (first name unknown)
Craig, of Kentucky. CHILDREN. SON: possibly
Fnsby Freeland, Jr. (ca. 1774-?). STEPSON: Fielder
Bowie, Jr. (1792-1866); possibly Thomas
Grayson. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: his household
contained 2 boys and 3 girls, all minors in 1800.

STATUS AND ACTIVITIES: listed as one of the fif-
teen wealthiest people living in Calvert County,
1782. OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE: probably a

planter. PUBLIC CAREER. LEGISLATIVE SERVICE:
Lower House, Calvert County, 1779-1780, 1780-

1781. LOCAL OFFICES: coroner, Calvert County,
appointed 1774, 1790, and 1795; Committee of
Observation, Calvert County, elected 1774; to-
bacco inspector, Lower Marlboro warehouse, Cal-
vert County, appointed 1786, 1787, 1788, 1790
(recommended, but not commissioned); justice,
Calvert County, 1787-at least 1793; commissioner
of tax, Calvert County, appointed 1798. MILITARY
SERVICE, captain, Calvert County Militia, commis-
sioned 1776. WEALTH DURING LIFETIME. PER-
SONAL PROPERTY: assessed value £1,032.17.6, in-
cluding 30 slaves and 30 oz. plate, 1783; 56 slaves,

1800. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION: at least 931

acres, plus 1 lot in Huntington, Calvert County
(323 acres inherited from his father). SIGNIFICANT

CHANGES IN LAND BETWEEN FIRST ELECTION

AND DEATH: purchased more than 391 acres and
sold 99 acres in Calvert County, 1780-1796.

vert County, a minor in 1757; younger son. NA-
TIVE: third generation. RESIDED: in "Upper Hun-
dreds of the Cliffs," Second Tax District, Calvert

County. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Robert

Freeland (?-ca. 1757), a planter, of Upper Cliffs,
Calvert County, son of Robert Freeland (?-ca.
1695), who immigrated ca. 1695 and resided in
Calvert County. MOTHER: Sarah, widow of
Thomas Holland (1700-1742), of Anne Arundel
County. BROTHERS: Robert, Jr.; Francis; Jacob;
Frisby Freeland (by 1747-?); and Benjamin (?-by
1757). SISTERS: Mary, who married William Har-
rison, Jr.; Sarah; and Rebecca. CHILDREN. His
household contained 2 boys and 2 girls, all be-
tween 10 and 16 years of age, 1800. PRIVATE CA-

ISLATIVE SERVICE: Lower House, Calvert County,

DEATH. DIED: possibly between 1810 and 1820,
probably in Calvert County; size of estate un-
known.

FREEMAN, WILLIAM (ca. 1668--ca. 1737/38).
BORN: ca. 1668. RESIDED: in Cecil County. MAR-
RIED Anne, a Quaker, who subsequently married
William Hutchinson. CHILDREN. SONS: Isaac; Ja-
