Mr. McLane submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Strike out all after the word "necessary," on 16th line, 3rd
page, and insert, "and for the paper on which said volume,
and volume 48, may be printed in accordance with the Act
of Assembly of 1867, Chapter 410, seven hundred dollars,
or so much thereof as may be necessary."

Which was adopted.

Said bill, as amended, was then read the third time, and
passed by yeas and nays as follows :

Said bill was then returned to the House of Delegates.

Mr. Combs, from a Select Committee, reported fa-
vorably,

House bill entitled an Act to repeal Chapter 238, passed at
January Session, 1876, entitled an Act to provide for the
repairs of public roads of St. Mary's county, and enact the
following as a substitute therefor.

With the following proposed amendments :
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED;

Strike out Section 2. and insert the following as Sec-
tion 2:

"Be it enacted, That the County Commissioners of St.
Mary's County, be, and they are hereby authorized and em-
powered to control and regulate the public roads of said
county.

"They shall levy upon the assessable property of said
county a fixed sum of money for the repairs of said public
roads at their levy term for each year; Provided, however,
that said sum so levied shall not exceed in any one year the
sum of five thousand dollars.

Amend Section 3, so as to read as follows :
