Senate Joint Resolutions extending the time of service of
the Hon. James A. Stewart, Chief Judge of the First Judi-
cial Circuit.

Endorsed "passed by yeas and nays. "
Also, delivered

House bill entitled an Act authorizing the Mayor and City
Council of Cumberland to issue bonds to the amount of
$65, 000 to the Pennsylvania Railroad Company in Maryland,
and confirming an ordinance entitled an ordinance to aid the
introduction of the Pennsylvania Railroad into the City of
Cumberland, passed for said purpose by said Mayor and City
Council, November 21st, 1877, and approved by a vote of the
people of said City, December 15th, 1877.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Judicial Proceedings.

Mr. Bannon submitted the following message:

BY THE SENATE,

January 11th, 1878.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We have received your message proposing to go into Joint
Convention this day, in the Hall of the House of Delegates,
at one o'clock, for the election of a Police Commissioner by
ballot, for the term of six years, in the place of Col. Harry
Gilmore, whose term of office will expire before the meeting
of the next General Assembly, and concur therein.

Secretary.

Which was read, assented to and sent to the House of
Delegates.

Mr. Humphreys, from a Select Committee, reported favor-
ably,

Senate bill entitled an Act to authorize Elijah S. Adkins
to settle his account as guardian to Covington S. H. Littleton,

and deliver over the estate to the said ward.

Which was read the first time.

The hour of 1 o'clock having arrived, the Senators pro-

ceeded to the Hall of the House of Delegates, to enter into
