The Secretary of the Senate appeared and delivered
the following message:
BY THE SENATE,
January 21st, 1892,
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :
We have received your message proposing the ap-
pointment of a Joint Committee of three on the part
of the House and two on the part of the Senate, to
wait upon the Hon. Arthur P Gorman, to notify him
of his election to the United States Senate, and concur
therein.
We have appointed on the part of the Senate,
Messrs. Gorter and Waters.

SEMBLY OF MARYLAND.

ELECTION OF A SENATOE IN CONGRESS,
The hour of 12 o'clock, Meridian, having arrived,
the Senators of Maryland, escorted by Messrs. Mc-
Sherry, Carr and Bittinger, the committee appointed
by the House of Delegates for that purpose, appeared
in the Hall of the House of Delegates, for the pur-
pose of convening with the members of the House of
Delegates in Joint Assembly, for the election of a
Senator from this State, to fill the vacancy caused by
the death of Hon. Ephraim K. Wilson, who died dur-
ing the recess of the Legislature of this State and
whose term of office would have expired March 4th,
1897.
The Speaker of the House of Delegates assumed the
Chair as Chairman of the Joint Assembly.
The Secretary of the Senate then read the Journal
of the proceedings of the Senate on the preceding day
