	CHAPTER 378.
	AN ACT to change the name of the "Withers
	Mining Company," and to grant additional pow-
	ers thereto.
	SECTION 1. Be it enacted ty the General Assem-
	bly of Maryland, That the name of the "Withers
	Mining Company," organized under an act of the
	General Assembly of Maryland, passed at December
	session of eighteen hundred and forty-seven, chapter three hundred and six, be and is hereby changed to	Change of name.
	the " Thomas Mining Company," and by such name
	it shall succeed to all the rights, powers, liabilities
	and obligations of said "Withers Mining Company.
	SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That said company
	shall have power to make assessments on the holders
	of its shares of stock for the purpose of raising money
	to improve its property, and erect necessary build- ings, train roads, sidings, machinery and other im-
	provements, for the purpose of mining and shipping	Make assess- ments.
	coal ; provided said assessments shall be of equal
	amount upon each share, and shall be levied by the
	board of directors of said company, and shall be rati-
	fied by a majority in interest of the stockholders
	thereof, at a meeting to be called for that purpose, as
	herein provided, and shall not exceed in the whole,
	ten per cent, of the par value of said stock.
	SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That whenever it shall
	be deemed necessary by the board of directors to	Levy assess-

	purpose therein stated, said board of directors shall
	make and levy such assessment, and shall thereupon
	call a meeting of the stockholders of said company,
	to be held in the town of Frostburg, and shall fix a
	time and place in said town for holding said meeting,
	and shall give notice by advertisement in some news-
	paper printed in Allegany county, of the levying of
	said assessment, and of the amount levied upon each
	share of stock, and of the time and place fixed for
	holding said meeting, which notice shall be published
