poor for Somerset county," and by that name may take and hold
any gift, donation or present which may be given, devised or
bequeathed by any person to them, for the support and mainte-
nance of the poor in said county, and may purchase and hold any

lands not exceeding the yearly value of fifteen hundred dollars.

7. They may use a common seal, and may change the same at
their pleasure.

8. They shall meet at the almshouse during the first week in
January, May, August and November, or oftener if necessary,
and make, by a majority of votes, all such rules and by-laws as-
they may think necessary for the direction, government and sup-
port of said almshouse.

9. At their annual meeting in May, they shall appoint an
overseer of said almshouse, and at their annual meeting in
November, or at such time as they may deem proper, they shall
appoint a physician and such agents and laborers as they may
think necessary; and the overseer so elected, shall enter upon the
discharge of his duties on the first day of January next ensuing.

10. They shall require the said overseer to give bond with
security approved by them, and payable to them, in the penalty
of five hundred dollars, for the faithful performance of the duties
of his office.

hundred dollars per annum, and so pro rata during his continu-
ance in office, as a compensation for his services.
