another headed "Name of Voter". All entries therein shall be made in,
ink, and the number and name of each person to whom a ballot is given
shall be entered on each of the poll-books by the clerk having charge thereof
in. regular succession under the proper heading, the number of such voter
being placed opposite his name in the column headed "Number," but if
the vote of any person whose name has thus been entered on poll-books
shall be afterwards rejected by the judges, the clerks shall thereupon draw
a line through his name and number as hereinafter provided,
In Baltimore City, at the primary election of 1940 and all subsequent
elections, a registered voter offering to vote at any election shall, before
being given a ballot or being admitted to the voting machine, identify him-
self by signing an application blank in the presence of the judges. The
judge in charge of the precinct registration files shall compare the signature
upon such application with the signature upon the registration card, and, if
the same are not identical, the applicant shall not be permitted to vote un-
less the majority of the judges are of the opinion that he is the same person
whose name appears upon the registration card. If the entry "Cannot
Write" appears upon the registration card, then the applicant, if a male,
shall state his age, which shall be compared with the age stated upon the
registration card, or the applicant shall identify himself or herself by
such other means as are referred to upon the registration card. If, upon
comparison of the signature or other identification, it is found that the
applicant is entitled to vote, then the judge having charge of the application
lists shall approve the application and write his initials thereon. The num-
ber of application blanks furnished to the judges shall exceed by twenty-
five per cent, the number of registered voters in the precinct and each ap-
plication blank shall be numbered, and they shall be handed to the appli-
cants in numerical order, as such applicants shall appear and offer to vote.
After the closing of the polls the applications shall be bound together in
numerical order. There shall be noted by one of the judges upon the pre-
cinct registration card of each voter who shall vote at any election, the date
of such election.
The applications of all persons who shall not be permitted to vote shall
be separated from the applications of those who shall be permitted to vote;
and, for the purpose of the comparison with the public counters of the
voting machines required by Section 275 of this Article, the number of
such rejected applications shall be deducted from the number of applica-
tions made, as shown by the figures appearing upon the face of the last
application to be filed.

108. The Supervisors of Elections shall provide in each room desig-
nated by them as polling places a sufficient number of voting booths or com-
partments, in which voters may conveniently mark their ballots. Said
booths or compartments shall be constructed of plank not less than one inch
in thickness or of substantial metallic or other material and shall be of such
width, depth and height that the voter in marking his ballot therein, shall
be screened from the observations of others, and for this purpose a short
curtain shall be hung across the front of each compartment at a convenient
height, and so as to extend a little below the shelf hereinafter mentioned.
Each compartment shall have a shelf within the same, and shall be provided
with proper supplies and conveniences for marking the ballots, and a guard-
