850 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [Ch. 579]
WHEREAS, The present Board of County Commissioners for
Caroline county have determined to remove the same, and
are arranging for the construction of a modern, up-to-date,
double-track bridge for travel for both teams and pedestrians,
numerous citizens and taxpayers of Caroline county are ask-
ing that the old "one-track iron bridge," now spanning the
Choptank River at Denton, when removed, be taken further
up the said river to a point on the west side thereof known
as "Downes Wharf," and there to substantially reconstruct
the same across the said Choptank River, connecting it by
causeway, etc., with the mainland of the east and west sides
of said river. This will benefit a large and fertile agricul-
tural section, steadily increasing in population and wealth,
on both sides of the river, and thereby place those of the west
side of the river, together with the citizens of the thriving
and progressive Town of Ridgely, approximately close to the
State Road which is already constructed on the east side of
said Choptank River; and
WHEREAS, The facts as above set forth would be a benefit not
only to the people of the section specifically referred to, but
because the increased assessable basis made by the impetus
thus given would be a lasting benefit to Caroline county as a
whole. To this end the General Assembly of Maryland for
1912 is respectfully asked to empower and require the County
Commissioners for Caroline county to raise money, by levy
or otherwise, to so locate and construct the old "one-track
iron bridge" (when they remove it from its present location)
by the passage of the following bill:
AN ACT to empower and require the County Commissioners of
Caroline county to move and reconstruct the old single-track
iron bridge (known as Denton Bridge) further up the Chop-
tank River, at or near a point on the west side of said river
known as "Downes Wharf," and to provide for free travel
between the east and west sides of said river at or near said
"Downes Wharf" in Caroline county, and build such roads
as are necessary to connect the same with other public roads
necessary to properly open said bridge to public travel.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Caroline county be and
they are hereby authorized and directed to move and recon-
struct in a substantial manner the old single-track iron bridge
now spanning the Choptank River at Denton (when removed
