TWELFTH REGIMENT INFANTRY.
THE Twelfth Regiment of Infantry, Maryland Volunteers, was
organized at Baltimore, Md., July 30, 1864, to serve for one hun-
dred days as emergency men, and really consisted of a Battalion
of five companies, viz.: Companies A, B, C, D and E.
The 12th Regiment of Infantry, during its brief term of service,
was assigned to guard duty along the line of the Baltimore and
Ohio Railroad between Baltimore, Md., and Kearneysville, Va.
The 12th Regiment of Infantry was mustered out of the military service of the
United States at Baltimore, Md., November 14, 1864, by reason of expiration of term of
service. A number of the men of the 12th Regiment who re-enlisted for one year prior
to the muster-out of the regiment were assigned to the 1st Eastern Shore Regiment of
Infantry Maryland Volunteers.
The casualties from death in the 12th Regiment of Infantry were as follows, viz.:
Died of disease, two enlisted men.
