To His EXCELLENCY, ROBT. M. McLANE,

Governor of Maryland:

I respectfully submit to your Excellency my Report
of the operations of the Treasury Department during
the last fiscal year ending on the 30th day of September,
1884, as required by the 9th Section of the 9th Article
of the Revised Code of the Public General Laws.

RECEIPTS.

The total receipts into the Treasury from all sources
during the fiscal year amounted to $3,729,576.15, and
the balance in the Treasury, 30th September, 1883, was
$982,183.52, making the amount in the Treasury during
the fiscal year $4,711,759.67.

In the amount received during the fiscal year, it must
be remembered, is included the money received on ac-
count of the Defence Redemption Loan and the pre-
mium upon the same, amounting together to the sum
of $1,686,496.22, leaving the receipts from ordinary
sources for the fiscal year 1884 to be $2,043,079.93.

The average ordinary receipts for the past five years
have been $1,976,752.51, and but one year in that time
did the receipts exceed the fiscal year 1884.
