To the Honorable General Assembly of

the State of Maryland, now in Session:

In compliance with the requirements of the Constitution and laws, the
Comptroller of the Treasury Department has the honor to submit the
following Report of the condition of the finances of the State:

THE OPERATIONS OF THE TREASURY.

Statement No. I, annexed to this report, exhibits the aggregate.receipts
into the Treasury for the fiscal year, ended 30th September 1855, to have
been $1,200,762 48,Which added to $378,123.98, [the balance in the
Treasury, on the 30th September 1854,] makes the total sum in the Trea-
sury, during the fiscal year, $,578,886.56.

Statement No. 2 will show the disbursements from the Treasury, during
the fiscal year, ended 30th September 1855, which appear to have been
$985,964.53, and will also show the balance in the Treasury, as of the
30th September 1855, to have been $592,928.03, subject to the payment
of charges therein stated, leaving a nett balance of $313,744.01, applicable
to the redemption of that part of the public debt, created by chapter 105 of
1827 and chapter 165 of 1829, now called in by the Treasurer, and to the
payment of other public demands.
