At a Session of the General Assembly of Maryland, begun and held
at the City of Annapolis, on the Seventh day of January, 1874,
His Excellency WILLIAM PINKNEY WHYTE, being Governor,
the following Laws were enacted, to wit:

CHAPTER 1.
AN ACT to authorize the Governor to appoint an
assistant to the Secretary of State.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of	Assistant Sec-

or absence of the Secretary of State, to appoint, tem-

or absence from the seat of government; and the
Governor is authorized to pay, out of the Executive
Contingent Fund, for such services a salary not ex-	Salary

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.	In force.
