                                Proceedings
                              of the Electors
                                      of
                    President & Vice President
                        of the United States
                  In & for the State of Maryland
                                    1848.



            On the First Wednesday in December, being
the sixth day of the said month in the year one Thousand
Eight Hundred & Forty eight, the Day appointed
by the Constitution & Laws of the United States, on which
the Electors of President & Vice President of the United
States of America are directed to assemble there form the
trust reposed in them, there appeared in the Senate Chamber,
in the City of Annapolis, (the place designated by Act
of Assembly for the meeting of the said Electors,) the
following Gentlemen, who had been proclaimed by the
Executive Authority of this State to have been duly elected
Electors of President & Vice President of the United States
in & for the State of Maryland towit:

                    William Lingan Gaither, of Montgomery County.
                    Joseph S. Cottman, of Somerset County.
                    John M. S. Causin, of Anne Arundel County.
                    Andrew G. Egan, of Carroll County.
                    James Morrison Harris, of Baltimore City.
                    Benjamin Chambers Wickes of Kent County.
                    John E. Dirickson, of Worcester County.
                    Jacob Philip Roman, of Allegany County.

The said Electors severally qualified by taking the oaths
prescribed by Law to be taken by all Civil officers; & by
declaring their belief in the Christian Religion.
            On motion of Mr. Harris, William Lingan Gaither was
unanimously chosen President.
            On motion of Mr. Wickes, Jos. H. Nicholson was unanimously
appointed Secretary, who duly qualified as such.
