                                        By the Senate
                                               January 27th. 1841.

Whereas at the meeting of the Electors of President and Vice President
of the United States in and for this State, held in this City on
the first Wednesday in December last, the following Preamble and Resolution
were adopted, towit:
" Whereas it is understood that no record has been kept of the proceedings
of the Electors of President and Vice President of the United
States, in and for the State of Maryland, except for the year Eighteen Hundred
and Thirty two and Eighteen Hundred and Thirty six, nor of any of
the forms connected therewith, nor of the names of the Electors, nor of the
persons voted for from time to time for President and Vice President
of the United States by the Electors duly chosen by the People of this State.
And whereas, it is important and proper that the same so far as
practicable, should be obtained and preserved among the Archives
of this State:  Therefore,
Resolved, that it is respectfully recommended to the General
Assembly of Maryland to cause to be forward from the proper
office of the General Government full and authentic copies of so much
of the proceedings of each and every College of Presidential Electors of
the State of Maryland, prior to the year Eighteen Hundred and Thirty
Two, as may be there found, and to have the same recorded in a
Book for the purpose to be obtained, together with the proceedings of
the Colleges of the year, Eighteen Hundred and Thirty two, Eighteen
Hundred and Thirty six and the present year."
And whereas, in the judgment of this General Assembly, the Record
contemplated in the aforegoing Preamble and Resolution
ought to be made for the purpose of preserving among the Archives
of the State the evidence of Acts required to be performed by
the People of Maryland by the Constitution of the United States, and
which are highly important and interesting parts of her history:
    Therefore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland that Joseph
H. Nicholson, the Secretary of the said Electoral College, be directed
to procure from the office of the Secretary of the Senate of the United
States authenticated copies of the Certificate of the Electoral Votes
of Maryland and record the same as proposed by the aforegoing
Resolution of the Electors.                          By order
                                                                  Jos. H. Nicholson, clk.
