CHAP. VIII.
An ACT to continue the civil causes depending in the general court
for the western
shore, and for other purposes.
The causes are continued until October
term, and shall stand for trial on the same days in that term
as are noted on the docket for the present term; or the court may, at discretion,
appoint other days.
And the court of appeals, and the general court, are
authorised, at their discretion, to continue any
cause now depending therein, beyond the time heretofore by law limited,
and until it shall appear to them
that justice may be fully administered. |

CHAP. IX.
An ACT for removing original papers in the late prerogative office,
to the several counties in this state. |
Transcript to
be made, &c. |
BE it enacted,
by the general assembly of Maryland, That the officer having
the custody of the original papers in the late prerogative office, shall
make
a fair transcript or record of all original papers which remain unrecorded,
and, after having recorded the same, shall sort out, list and pack up,
in distinct
parcels, all the original papers to each county belonging, or in any manner
appertaining
to the estates of deceased persons; and such papers, so sorted, the
officer aforesaid shall deposit, in boxes or packages to be prepared by
him for that
purpose, and the same shall have ready to deliver unto the register of
wills for
each county, by the first day of November next, and immediately thereafter
give
notice to the register of wills for each county, that the aforesaid original
papers
are packed up and ready to be delivered, under the penalty of one hundred
pounds current money; and the registers of wills aforesaid shall safely
transmit
such original papers contained in said boxes and packages, to their respective
counties, within twenty days after receipt thereof, under the penalty of
thirty
pounds like money; and the officer packing up such original papers shall
be entitled
to one hundred pounds current money for his services. |

II. And be it
enacted, That the register of wills for each respective county
shall, within twelve months, in like manner sort out, list and pack up,
in a distinct
parcel or parcels, all original papers which he may receive belonging to
any
other county, and shall immediately thereafter give notice to the register
of wills
for such county, that the aforesaid original papers are packed up and ready
to
be delivered, under the penalty of thirty pounds current money. |
And record
them, &c. |
III. And be
it enacted, That the registers of wills aforesaid shall, and they
are hereby required, to record the said original papers, among the records
of the
orphans court in their respective counties, in a convenient time after
the receipt
thereof; and each of the said registers shall be entitled to a reasonable
reward for
their respective services, for removing and recording said papers; and
the several
and respective county courts are hereby authorised and empowered to levy
and
assess the same, in the same manner as other county charges are levied
and
assessed. |

CHAP. X.
An ACT giving a further time for the payment of the taxes levied for
the present
year, and other purposes therein mentioned.
The first collection is postponed to
the first of August, &c. |

CHAP. XI.
An ACT to establish a market-house in Elizabeth-town, in Washington
county, and for the regulation of the same. |
| Preamble. |
WHEREAS it has been represented to this general
assembly, by sundry
inhabitants of Washington county, that they labour under many great
inconveniencies, for want of a market-house in Elizabeth-town, in
said county; that a large and commodious space of ground was laid out for
that
purpose, in the center of said town, and appropriated for said purpose;
and that
the said petitioners propose to build thereon at their own expence; and
it appearing
reasonable to grant the prayer of said petition: Therefore, |

to lay out
ground, &c. |
II. Be it enacted,
by the general assembly of Maryland, That Henry Shryock,
Matthias Need, and Martin Harry, be and are hereby nominated and appointed |
