                                HIS EXCELLENCY

            ROBERT BOWIE, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

                                            _____
                                        CHAP. II.
An Act granting leave to the Trustees of Bethel Congregation, in Harford
County, to receive a Deed for, and hold, the Land therein
mentioned.  Lib. TH. No. 1, fol. 1.

Passed Jan. 25, 1806.
WHEREAS the trustees of Bethel congregation, by their petition
to this general assembly, have represented, that the said congregation
bought three acres of land under lease, for the purpose of building
a house of worship, and paid for the same, a considerable time
before the American revolution; that they erected a house of worship
thereon, and laid out a portion thereof for a burying ground,
which hath been used for these purposes ever since; that the said
congregation hath been incorporated according to law, and have
purchased the fee in said three acres from the state, and have paid
Hope, a member of the society, to obtain a patent for the same for
the use of said congregation, and that the patent hath issued in his
name accordingly, and that he being advanced in years, is desirous
to convey the same to the said trustees, but they are precluded
from receiving the same by the declaration of rights, without leave
of the legislature; they also represent, that any diminution will
most materially injure said lot, either by taking away the church
or excluding a large part of the burying ground; they therefore pray
that a law may pass granting leave, and authorising the said Thomas
Hope, to convey to said trustees, and their successors, the said
three acres of land for the purposes aforesaid; and the same being
considered reasonable, therefore,
Preamble.
    2.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the leave of this legislature is hereby given to the said Thomas
Leave of the legislature
given for
conveyance of
certain land.
