            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

—An advance of one fourth to be made,
    Jonas Green appointed printer to the state,
—His duty to print the laws, votes and proceedings,
according to the act of 1790, ch. 51, section 3,
and the 64th resolution passed in 1811,
    Twenty days in addition for printing the laws allowed
for the year 1816,
    Bond to be given within fifteen days after the close
of each annual session, in the penalty therein prescribed,
—The security to be approved by the treasurer of
the western shore,
—Fine on refusal or neglect to give such bond, and
the salary to be forfeited,
—In case of death, or refusal or neglect to enter
into the bond, the governor and council to appoint
some other person,

    Punishment for burning.  See Arson.
    For other matters, see Gaol.

    May be removed from one gaol to another, and the
sheriff not subjected to an action of escape,
    Removal of, by habeas corpus, or in case of fire, &c.

    Allowance for keeping in gaol in the counties
therein mentioned,

    No person to sue or be sued in privilege,

    Fee allowed to justices of the peace for taking,
—To be prepared by them,
    Probats of accounts against estates of deceased persons
may be taken by registers of wills,
—Their fees thereon,

    Where necessary, on reversal of a judgment, directed
to be sent to the county courts, and directions for sending
the proceedings,
    Directions in cases where new parties are to be made,

    Sheriffs neglecting to make return of process liable
to amercement, &c.

    Process may be issued to another state against the
administrator, &c. of a defendant dying,
    Process from one county to another to be addressed
by letter or cover to the clerk of such other county,
and put in the post office,
—Duty of the said clerk to take up such letters,
and deliver the process to the sheriff,
—To transmit a certificate of the receipt and delivery,
which shall be evidence,
—The expense of postage, and a compensation, to
be allowed by the levy courts,
—Penalty on clerks or registers for neglect,
—On sheriffs, &c. neglecting or delaying to serve
the process so directed,
—Sheriffs, &c. may make return of the process by
mail to the clerk of the court where returnable,
—Evidence required as to the letter or cover for
that purpose,
    Nothing herein to affect the remedy given by the 1st
section of the act of 1815, ch. 149,

    Where a power is given to take bills pro confesso, a
decision may be made against the defendants absent
making a default, on the testimony taken, instead of
issuing a commission,
