1870.] OF THE SENATE. 859

purposed evil free me so far in your most generous thoughts,
that I have shot my arrow o'er the house and hurt my
brother."

There are those of you, Senators, with whom I have been
so long and intimately associated, and for whom I entertain
so much regard and esteem, that I cannot contemplate the
probability of a final dissolution of our intercourse here with-
out a formal, but faithful expression of my regret.

In conclusion, I tender to Senators and officers, my thanks
for the courtesy and support they have invariably extended
to me, and best wishes for their continued health and success.

I pronounce this Senate adjourned sine die.

ATTEST: AUGUSTUS GASSAWAY,
Secretary.
