In April 1996, the Governor formed the Gov
ernor's Task Force on Children, Youth, and Farm
lies Systems Reform (Executive Order
01 01 1996 11) The Task Force is to review the
effectiveness of children and famih service systems,
the status of reform efforts, and local. State and
federal laws governing these services and their
funding Authorization for the Task Force ends
November 15, 1996

The Governor started the Maryland Civil War
Heritage Commission in February 1992 (Fxecutive
OrderOl 01 1992 07) In keeping with the Amen
can Battlefield Protection Program of the U S
Department of the Interior, the Commission works
to protect Civil War sites and structures in Mary
land The Commission coordinates Maryland's
participation in the Program with the federal gov
ernment and private foundations to secure support
and financial resources for protect! ng these sites and
structures The Commission also advises State gov
ernment agencies on matters relating to Civil War
sites and structures
