CONVENTION, HOUSTON, TEXAS,
AUGUST 17-20, 1992
The Maryland Delegation to the 1992 Republican
National Convention included 42 delegates and 42
alternates. Three delegates and three alternates were
elected from each of the eight congressional districts
by the registered Republican voters in the March 3,
1992 primary election. Eighteen at-large delegates
and eighteen alternates were selected by the Republi-

can State Central Committee of Maryland at its
spring 1992 convention.
At the National Convention, elected delegates
must vote for whichever Presidential candidate car-
ries their congressional district. At-Large delegates
must vote for whichever candidate carries the state
as a whole. Delegates are released from this com-
mitment after the second ballot unless their candi-
date withdraws or receives less that 35 percent of
the vote.
