of the Board must be residents of Maryland.
Three members must have had paid work experi-
ence in audiology for at least five years, hold the
certificate of clinical competence in audiology of
the American Speech and Hearing Association or
the equivalent, and be approved by the Maryland
Speech and Hearing Association. One member
must have had paid work experience in speech
pathology for at least five years, hold the certifi-
cate of clinical competence in Speech Pathology
of the American Speech and Hearing Association
or the equivalent, and be approved by the Mary-
land Speech and Hearing Association. One mem-
ber must be a person licensed to practice medi-
cine in Maryland and hold a certificate of
qualification from the American Board of Otolar-
yngology. One member must be a consumer, who
is appointed with the advice and consent of the
Senate.

The Board evaluates the qualifications of audi-
ologists in the State and issues licenses to those
who fulfill the requirements. Licenses are renewed
annually (Code Health Occupations Article, Title
2).

The State Board of Chiropractic Examiners,
created by Chapter 666, Acts of 1920, consists of
four members. Three must be practicing chiro-
practors, who are graduates of a resident course
in chiropractic and who have have practiced chi-
ropractic in the State for a period of at least five
consecutive years. Upon recommendation of the
Secretary of the Department of Health and Men-
tal Hygiene, the Governor appoints one member
each year from a list of five names submitted to
him by the Maryland Chiropractic Association.
The fourth member is a consumer appointed by
the Governor upon recommendation of the Secre-
tary of Health and Mental Hygiene with the ad-
vice and consent of the Senate. Members serve
three-year terms (Code Health Occupations Arti-
cle, Title 3). The Board examines applicants for
licenses, investigates all complaints, and reports
them to the State's Attorney if necessary.

The Board holds two examinations each year in
March and September. It has power to investigate
and ascertain whether schools of chiropractic
meet the requirements of the law. Each person

holding a chiropractic license in Maryland must
renew it annually with the secretary of the Board
(Code Health Occupations Article, sec. 3-304).

Subject to the evaluation and reestablishment
provisions of the Regulatory Programs Evalua-
tion Act (sunset law) of 1978, authorization for
the Board continues until July 1, 1988 (Chapter
170, Acts of 1981).

The General Assembly established this Board
in 1884 (Chapter 150, Acts of 1884). The Gover-
nor appoints its ten members for six-year terms
with the advice of the Secretary of Health and
Mental Hygiene. The Dental Practice Act of the
State provides that this Board regulate the prac-
tice of dentistry by testing the qualifications of
candidates for licenses in dentistry and in dental
hygiene.

All applicants for license to practice dentistry
must be graduates of dental colleges duly incor-
porated to grant degrees in Dental Surgery by the
laws of one of the United States or Canada. All
applicants for a license to practice dental hygiene
must be graduates of a school for dental hygien-
ists approved by the State Board of Dental Ex-
aminers. Examinations, held twice every year, are
both written and practical. Every dentist and ev-
ery dental hygienist must register annually (Code
Health Occupations Article, Title 4).
