Samuel Sprigg, Democrat, 1819-1822. "Thought to have been born in
Prince George's County about 1783, the son of Joseph and —
Sprigg. Episcopalian. Married Violetta Lansdale. Died at Northamp-
ton, Prince George's County, April 21, 1856. Buried in Oak Hill Ceme-
tery, Georgetown, D. C.
Samuel Stevens, Jr., Democrat, 1822-1826. Born in Talbot County,
July 13, 1778, the son of John and Elizabeth (Connoly) Stevens. Epis-
copalian. Married Eliza May. Died at Compton, near Trappe, Febru-
ary 7, 1860. Place of burial unknown. Thought to have been buried in
the Stevens family cemetery, Talbot County.'
Joseph Kent, Democrat, 1826-1829. Born in Calvert County, January
14, 1779, the son of Daniel and Anne (Wheeler) Kent. Episcopalian.
Resident of Prince George's County when elected. Married (1) Eleanor
Lee Wallace; (2) Alice Contee. Died at Rosemount, Prince George's
County, November 24, 1837. Buried at Rosemount, Prince George's
County.
Daniel Martin, Anti-Jackson, 1829-1830, 1831. Born at The Wilder-
ness, Talbot County, in 1780, the son of Nicholas and Hannah (Old-
ham) Martin. Episcopalian. Married Mary Clare Maccubbin. Died in
Talbot County, July II, 1831. Buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.(2)
Thomas King Carroll, Jackson, Democrat, 1830-1831. Born at King-
ston Hall, Somerset County, April 29, 1793, the son of Col. Henry
James and Elizabeth (Barnes) King Carroll. Episcopalian. Married
Julianna Stevenson. Died in Dorchester County, October 3, 1873.
Buried in Old Trinity Church graveyard. Church Creek, Dorchester
County.
George Howard, Anti-Jackson, 1831-1833. Born in Annapolis, No-
vember 21, 1789, the son of John Eager and Peggy (Chew) Howard.
Resident of Baltimore County when elected. Episcopalian. Married
Prudence Gough Ridgely. Died at Waverly, Howard County, August
2, 1846. Buried in Ola St. Paul's Cemetery, Baltimore.
James Thomas, Anti-Jackson, 1833-1836. Born at De La Brooke
Manor, St. Mary's County, March II, 1786, the son of William and
Catherine (Boarman) Thomas. Episcopalian. Married Elizabeth Coates.
Died at Deep Falls, St. Mary's County, December 26, 1846. Buried at
Deep Falls, St. Mary's County.
Thomas W. Veazey, Whig, 1836-1839. Born in Cecil County, January
31, 1774, the son of Edward and Elizabeth (DeCoursey) Veazey. Epis-
copalian. Married (1) Sarah Worrell; (2) Mary Veazey; (3) Mary
Wallace. Died in Cecil County, July 1, 1842. Buried in the family
cemetery at Cherry Grove, Cecil County.

as amended in 1838(3)
William Grason, Democrat, 1839-1842. Thought to have been born
in Queen Anne's County, March II, 1788, the son of Richard and Ann
— Grason. Episcopalian. Married Susan Orrick Sulivane. Died
in Queen Anne's County, July 2, 1868. Buried near Queenstown, Queen
Anne's County.

Governor was changed to the first Monday in January
2 Governor Martin died in office on July II, 1831 George Howard, the first named
of the Governor's Council, succeeded him Governor Howard completed Governor
Martin's term which expired in January 1832 He was subsequently elected by the Leg-
islature for a one-year term

extended to three years The same Act also established three gubernatorial districts, the
