The Governor appointed this Committee in 1971 to review accidents
reported by the Safety Coordinators of each of the State departments
and agencies. The Committee is to establish a program and proce-
dure which will reduce the number and costs of accidents. The Com-
mittee consists of members of the State Highway Administration,
the Motor Vehicles Administration, the Division of Labor and Indus-
try, the Maryland State Police and a representative of the Baltimore
County government.
HOSPITAL FOR THE CONSUMPTIVES OF MARYLAND
(EUDOWOOD SANATORIUM)
The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore 21205; established 1894;
Colonel James H. Hamilton, Assistant Secretary-Treasurer. Six mem-
bers of the Board of Directors were previously appointed by the Gov-
ernor for six-year terms. The last of these terms expired in 1971. Upon
the expiration of their terms of office, all members of the Board of
Directors will be hereafter elected by the Board of Directors including
the six members formerly appointed by the Governor of Maryland
(Charter Amendment dated May 21, 1965).
HUMANE PRACTICES COMMISSION

The Governor appointed this special Commission in 1971 at the
request of the General Assembly to investigate and oversee the
treatment, care, and the condition of patients in hospitals for the
mentally ill and mentally retarded. The Commission consists of three
members appointed by the Governor representative of voluntary
citizens groups which shall include one group concerned with the
mentally ill, one group concerned with the mentally retarded, and
the third group concerned with handicapped persons. The President
of the Senate appoints two members of the Commission while the
Speaker of the House of Delegates appoints two members. The Com-
mission is to report on a regular basis to the Governor and the
General Assembly as to its findings (Res. No. 47, Acts of 1971).
