Each Board assists the President of the College in determining the goals of each College and in an evaluation of the progress towards such goals. Each also makes recommendations and assists in the preparation of the annual college budget, assists in the development of college facilities, assists in the conduct and development of commu- nity related programs, develops community and private support for the college, and assists in the selection of a President. Each Board also carries out such responsibilities as may be delegated to it by the Board of Trustees of the State Colleges or by the President (Code 1957, 1969 Repl. Vol., Art. 77A, sees. 11-13J). Myers, Ph.D., President Bowie (Prince George's County) 20715 Telephone: 262-3350 Bowie State College was established originally in 1867 as the Balti- more Normal School, a private Institution. By Chapter 5&&, Acts of 1908, the State purchased this School and moved it to its present location; it was then renamed the State Teachers College at Bowie. The College adopted its present name and became a general State College on July 1, 1963. Bowie State College is located on a 186-acre tract approximately eighteen miles northeast of Washington and situated in the middle of a triangle of Baltimore, Washington and Annapolis. The College is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the National Council for Accredita- tion of Teacher Education, and by the Department of Education of Maryland. |
