Sullivan Room 16, 7 Church Lane, Pikesville 21208 Telephone: 484-6464 The Maryland Police Training Commission was created by Chapter 286, Acts of 1966, to fulfill the need for improvement in the adminis- tration of law enforcement by raising the standards of training and education. The Commission consists of twelve members of whom nine are non- appointive office holders. These include the Deputy Secretary of Public Safety, the President of the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association, the President of the Maryland Law Enforcement Officers, Inc., the Attorney General of the State of Maryland, the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, the Commissioner, Baltimore City Police De- partment, the President of the University of Maryland, the President, Eastern Shore Police Association, and the Agent in charge of the Baltimore office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services, with the approval of the Governor and with the advice and consent of the Senate for three year terms. Each appointive member must be from different geo- graphical areas of the State. The eight non-appointive members may be represented by alternates except for the Deputy Secretary for Public Safety. The Commission is authorized to set standards of training for law enforcement and security officers at the entrance, in-service, super- visory and administrative levels. All State, county and incorporated municipal law enforcement agencies are required to meet these stand- ards. No law enforcement or security officer may be appointed unless he satisfactorily meets such qualifications as may be determined by the Commission.
