Jaworski, Secretary 2100 Guilford Avenue, Baltimore 21218 Telephone: 837-9000 The Commission on Physical Fitness was created by Chapter 606, Acts of 1963, to protect and improve the physical fitness of the resi- dents of this State. The Commission consists of twenty-five members, including a Chair- man, all appointed by the Governor, because of their interest or expe- rience in physical fitness for both youth and adults. The initial mem- bers of the Commission were appointed as follows: six members were appointed for one-year terms; six members for two-year terms; six members for three-year terms; and six members and the Chairman for four-year terms. As the term of each member expires, his suc- cessor shall be appointed for a term of four years. The Commission appoints the Executive Director who also serves as the Secretary of the Commission. The Commission maintains liaison with the State Department of Education, the city and county Boards of Education, private and paro- chial schools, and physical fitness commissions. It also disseminates information about physical fitness, collects and assembles information from other departments and agencies of the State, and employs such personnel as necessary to carry out its functions. The funds for the Commission may not exceed $25,000 in the annual budgets. The Governor also appoints in each county and the City of Balti- more a local Physical Fitness Commission, each to be composed of from fifteen to twenty-five residents of the particular political sub- division.
