JOURNAL.

ANNAPOLIS, January 1, 1868.
STATE OF MARYLAND, TO WIT :

In conformity with the requirement of the Constitution,
the Senators elect assembled in the Senate Chamber this
clay.

At 12 o'clock Augustus Gassaway, Secretary of the late
Senate, proceeded to call the roll, when the following
Senators elect answered to their names :

Allegany County—Alfred Spates.
Anne Arundel County—Eli J. Henkle.
Baltimore City—

" " 2nd Legislative District—Henry Snyder.

" " 3d Legislative District—Isaac M. Denson.
Baltimore County—James C. Clarke.
Calvert County—John C. Parker.
Caroline County—Daniel Fields.
Carroll County—Nathan Browne.
Cecil County—John M. Miller.
Charles County—Barnes Compton.
Dorchester County—Washington A. Smith.
Frederick County—Joshua Biggs.
Harford County—John C. Walsh.
Howard County—John Lee Carroll.
Kent County—-William Welch.
Montgomery County—Nicholas Brewer.
Prince George's County—John F. Lee.
Queen Anne's County—James T. Earle.
St. Mary's County—G. Fred. Maddox.
Somerset County—Christopher H. Hyland.
Talbot County—Ormond Hammond.
Washington County—James H. Grove.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

The Hon. Barnes Compton, of Charles county, was
elected President, pro tempore. of the Senate.

After which he qualified before the Hon. Alfred Spates,
the Senator for Allegany county, by taking and subscribing
the oath prescribed by the Constitution.

All the Senators present were then qualified by taking the
same oath before the President, pro tempore.
On motion by Mr. Henkle,

The Senate adjourned until to-morrow at 12 o'clock, M.
