SOMERSET COUNTY.

of any servant or slave, after being sent to labour on said roads,
who shall neglect to perform his reasonable service, which is
found to be oppressive and injurious, Be it enacted, that it is
hereby declared to be the duty of each and every overseer in
the said county to compel each servant or slave, after being so
sent to labour on the public roads aforesaid, to do and perform
his reasonable service aforesaid, and the master, mistress or
overseer, of any such servant or slave, sent as aforesaid, shall
not be subject to the fine aforesaid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all those parts of the said
act which are repugnant to the several clauses contained in
this supplement, be and the same are hereby repealed.

A further SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act relating to the Public
Roads in Somerset County. — 1801, ch. 83.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, the several and
respective overseers of the public roads in Somerset county,
shall make, or secure to be made, due compensation to the
proprietor or proprietors of any tree or trees which they may
cut down for the purpose of making or repairing any bridge
or causeway under their care and direction, in such manner

as the levy court of said county shall direct and appoint; Pro-
vided, that before any tree or trees shall be cut down for the
purposes aforesaid, notice thereof shall be given to the owner,
tenant or overseer, of the land on which the said trees may be.

Overseers'
allowance.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That every overseer appointed by
virtue of the act to which this is a further supplement, shall
be allowed a sum, not exceeding fifteen dollars by the year for
the. performance of the several duties required of them by said
act, and to be paid as prescribed by said act.
SEC. 3. Authorized a levy for the roads and bridges about Vienna and
Salisbury.

Part of an

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all and every part of the
original uct to which (his is a further supplement, which is
or may be repugnant to this act, be and the same is hereby
repealed and made void.

AN ACT to alter and change the mode of appointment of Overseers of
Public Roads, so far as relates to Somerset County. — 1820, ch. 49.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the justices of the levy court for Somerset county, be,
and they are hereby authorized and required, to meet together
on the first Monday of April next, and on the same day in
every year thereafter, at the court-house in the said county,
and when so met together, appoint overseers of the roads for
the said county, in as full and complete manner as the justices
of the peace for the said county are authorized by the several
