sioners may by ballot elect a successor to fill the
vacancy.

Compensa-
tion.

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That it shall be law-
ful for the Commissioners of said town to levy to
themselves as compensation for their services a
sum not exceeding fifty dollars annually, the pro-
visions of this section to entitle the present Board
of Commissioners compensation for the present
term office, from the first day of April, eighteen
hundred and sixty-six.

Bailiff.

Sec. 8. And ie it enacted, That the said Com-
missioners when elected and duly qualified shall
have power to appoint a Bailiff for the said town
for the person of one year or until a successor is
appointed and qualified, and said Bailiff shall
within the limits of Somerset and Worcester
counties and town of Salisbury have and exercise
all the powers and perform all the duties of a
Constable.

Oath and
Bond.

Sec. 9. And be it enacted, That the Bailiff be-
fore entering upon the duties of his office shall
make oath before a Justice of the Peace for Som-
erset county that he will faithfully and impartially
perform the duties of Bailiff and Constable within
said town and county according to the best of his
skill and ability, and shall also give bond in the
same penalty and in all respects be subject to the
same liabilities as the Constable's bond of said
county, with good and sufficient security, to be
upproved by the Commissioners of Somerset county
conditioned that he will faithfully and truly exe-
cute the said office in all things appertaining
thereto, and shall well and truly account for all
moneys and other liabilities placed in his hands
for collection or otherwise, and shall well and
truly pay over all sums of money received by
him.

Taxes.

Sec. 10. And be it enacted, That the Commis-
sioners of said town may levy an equal tax all
all real and personal property within the corporate
limits of said town to such amount as they may
deem necessary, and may appoint a collector to
collect said tax, who shall have the same power
to collect said taxes in the name of the Commis- .
sioners of Salisbury town as fines and forfeitures
are collected, and a copy of the tax taken from
