and distribution of the mineral resources. It likewise carries on
work In hydrography, forestry, terrestrial magnetism, and the map-
ping of the agricultural soils in co-operation with the National Gov-
ernment. The most important feature of this joint work is the prep-
aration and publication of a topographic map of the State on the
scale of 1 miles to 1 inch.

The State Horticultural Department is an adjunct of the Maryland
Agricultural College, and has charge of the suppression and eradica-
tion of all plant diseases and insect pests.
The Department consists of a State Entomologist, a State Patholo-
gist and a State Horticulturist, who shall be respectively the Pro-
fessor of Entomology, the Professor of Pathology and the Professor
