of two years from the third Monday in January next ensuing his
election, and appoints all clerks in his office to hold office during his
pleasure.

Captain William Baird, U. S. A. retired, designated by the War De-
partment at the request of the Governor of the State, for duty in con-
nection with the State Militia.
The Adjutant General is appointed by the Governor, with the con-
sent of the Senate, for the same term as that of the appointing
Governor. (Constitution, Art. 9, Sec. 2.) The designation of an
officer of the United States Army, for duty in connection with the
State Militia, is made by the War Department under an Act of Con-
gress providing that any State having a regularly organized militia
conforming to the Act of Congress, may, through Its Governor,
request the designation.
The other officers of the Adjutant General's Office are appointed by
the Adjutant General.
